HAMILTON — A Butler County jury returned a guilty verdict Thursday, July 16, against a Hamilton man accused of attacking a man with a hammer in November.

Charles D. McDonald, 18, was convicted on a felonious assault charge for injuring 27-year-old John J. Brown in the early morning hours Nov. 7 in the 700 block of East Avenue.

Brown suffered facial fractures and required several stitches and staples to repair, said Butler County Prosecutor Robin Piper, who called the incident a “brutal attack” in a released statement.

“Instead of sneaking up behind people with a hammer, McDonald can now wrap his hands around bars ... for a long time,” Piper stated.

McDonald is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 25, according to Butler County Jail records.
