LEBANON — A Franklin man could spend nearly two decades in prison if he is found guilty of kidnapping and robbery.

John Brewer, II, 40, 608 E. 4th Street, Franklin was indicted on a first-degree felony kidnapping charge and robbery, a second-degree felony, by a Warren County grand jury on Friday.

A former girlfriend was visiting a friend at her apartment in Carlisle on Dec. 9 when Brewer, who is the father of the friend’s child, showed up and got into an altercation with her, according to Prosecutor David Fornshell.

“She leaves the apartment because she decides she is going to go somewhere else to get away from him,” he said. “He then follows her a few blocks down the street and grabs her from behind and allegedly begins choking her and drags her back to the apartment.”

He also claimed she owed him money and grabbed her purse, ripping the handle. The victim went into the bathroom to call a male friend to pick her up. Brewer allegedly attacked her again, punching her in the face, Fornshell said. When the male friend arrived, Brewer allegedly assaulted him as well.

Fornshell said when the police were summoned, Brewer left the apartment and was later apprehended.

If found guilty, Brewer faces 10 years in prison on the kidnapping charge and eight years for robbery.

Brewer is being held in the Warren County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
