OXFORD — Miami University police issued a crime alert to the college community following an assault on a male student at 2:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12.

The student told police he was walking with a friend on East High Street when he ran into another man on the street, which knocked both of them to the ground.

He continued walking and when he was on Tallawanda Street near Billings Hall, he was hit from behind by the same man he had collided with, according to the Miami University police report.

The student told police the man pulled a knife and cut him on his left hand before running off toward Bishop Street. The student then went to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as a white male, college aged, 5-feet 10-inches tall, 185 pounds with brown hair. He was wearing a black jacket and had brown hair spiked in the front, according to the alert.
