HAMILTON — A pretrial hearing for a Middletown man charged with murder in a February shooting death was canceled Thursday, July 30. The prosecution and defense say they are ready for trial next month.

Jerry Adams III, 25, of 16th Avenue, is charged with aggravated murder for allegedly shooting Raymond Davis on Feb. 10 near 15th Avenue and Vermont Street in Middletown. Davis, 30, died of his wounds early the next day at Atrium Medical Center.

Adams’ trial was scheduled to begin earlier this month, but defense attorneys Michael Shanks and Chris Pagan were granted a continuance by Butler County Common Pleas Judge Keith Spaeth after receiving new evidence they say points to another suspect.

Middletown police say at least two eyewitnesses identified Adams as the person who shot Davis.

Defense attorneys claim a 911 tape discovered in July may implicate someone else.

The trial is now scheduled to begin Aug. 10 before Spaeth.
