HAMILTON — The case of a Hamilton man accused of dumping his pregnant dog on a St. Clair Twp. farm in frigid weather was continued today, March 10, in Hamilton Municipal Court.

Darryl Lawson, 45, of Hamilton, appeared in court this morning, when his case was continued until March 31.

Lawson was cited Tuesday, Feb. 16, for misdemeanor charges of abandonment, abuse to companion animals, unlicensed dog and dog running at large.

Animal Friends Humane Society Executive Director Meg Stephenson said Lawson turned himself into authorities.

“He did say that he could no longer care for her,” Stephenson said when asked if Lawson gave a reason for abandoning his dog.

The beagle mix and her puppies were discovered Feb. 10 by Chris Demoret on his St. Clair Twp. farm after a snowstorm. The dog, which was emaciated, had snuggled up to a hay roll on the Benzing farm and delivered her seven puppies.
