MIDDLETOWN — Two men involved in a violent single-car accident were transported to Atrium Medical Center Wednesday, July 21 after slamming into a telephone pole.

The men were traveling northeast in the 3300 block of Titus Avenue at about 9 p.m. when the driver of the vehicle lost control of the car, crossed oncoming traffic and slammed into the pole, police said.

The car hit the telephone pole with such force, police said, that the vehicle severed the pole.

Both men, whose names and ages have not been released, suffered severe head wounds, police said.

Police said open beer cans were found inside the vehicle, but have not ruled whether alcohol played a role in the crash.

As of Wednesday night, the accident was still under investigation.
