Steelmaker raises surcharges on electrical steel

Staff Report

AK Steel Corp. is raising a $350 per ton surcharge to invoices for electrical steel products shipped in November 2010.

November 2010 surcharges for a range of stainless steel products that AK produces can be found on the company’s web site at www.aksteel.com, the company said.

The surcharges are based on reported prices for raw materials and energy used to manufacture the products, with the September 2010 purchase cost used to determine the November 2010 surcharges, said the steelmaker, which is based in Butler County’s West Chester Twp.

With a steel plant and research center in Middletown, AK makes flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steels primarily for the automotive, appliance, construction and electrical power generation and distribution markets.
