Report of tractor-trailer on its side on I-75

Staff Report

MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County — Emergency responders were called to an injury accident involving a tractor-trailer that is on its side in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75.

The accident was reported shortly after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, who is from Canada, was taken to a Sycamore Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according Miami Twp. Major John DiPietro.

The tractor-trailer was blocking all the northbound lanes of the I-75, near mile marker 46, according to police scanner traffic. As of 12:15 p.m., there was one lane of I-75 north open to motorists.

The cause of the accident was unknown as of 2:45 p.m. However, crash investigators believe that tractor-trailer was traveling north on I-75 when it went off the left side of the road for an unknown reason. The tractor-trailer continued northbound, but eventually lost control and turned on its side. The crash resulted in thousands of Hunt’s tomato sauce being spilled across the highway.

The cleanup was still going on as of 2:45 p.m.

The ramp from Ohio 725 to I-75 is shut down while responders from West Carrollton and Miami Twp. deal with the accident.

One southbound lane of I-75 was shut down to allow those traveling north to turn around.

Police believe another accident that occurred in the southbound lanes, opposite of where the tractor-trailer came to rest, was the result of someone being distracted by the overturned tractor-trailer. At least one person had to be taken to a local hospital in that second accident, DiPietro said.
