Procter & Gamble close office, two plants in Egypt

CINCINNATI — Consumer products maker Procter & Gamble Co. has closed its two plants and a general office in Egypt because of the political turmoil there.

Spokeswoman Robyn Schroeder says in Cincinnati that the company closed general offices in Cairo last Wednesday, telling employees to work from home, then closed the plants just outside Cairo on Friday.

The global maker of such products as Gillette shavers and Pampers diapers has nearly 1,500 employees in the country. Schroeder said all employees were reported to be safe and there had been no property damage reported to P&G facilities.

The plants make diapers, soap and detergents, among other products.

Schroder said Monday the company is making contingency plans in case operations and supplies are disrupted for an extended time.
