Ohio jobless rate dips to 8.5 percent in November

Ohio’s jobless rate has fallen to its lowest level in nearly four years, according to the state jobs department, which reported Friday that the unemployment rate dipped to 8.5 percent in November, down from 9 percent in the previous month.

It was the biggest monthly percentage point drop in unemployment since the recession began in 2007 and also a bigger drop in unemployment than the national rate, which fell from 9 percent to 8.6 percent last month.

The number of unemployed workers also dipped below 500,000 for the first time since December 2008, falling by 30,000 last month to 496,000, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
