The CEO of Steiner + Associates said his goal is to start construction a year from now on a mixed open-air retail development with department stores, movie theaters, office space and housing at the Liberty Way Interchange off Interstate 75.

In an interview with the developer, Yaromir Steiner, founder and chief executive officer of Columbus-based Steiner + Associates, said despite previous economic delays he still plans to open Liberty Town Square in 2014.

Liberty Town Square is the name of the planned development in Liberty Twp. at the crossroads of the interchange and Ohio 129, modeled after Steiner’s former projects, Easton Town Center in Columbus and The Greene in Beavercreek. The first phase is estimated to cost close to $300 million for about 1 million-square-feet, according to Steiner.

Approximately 3,000 construction jobs would be created and roughly 4,500 permanent jobs, as well as $1 million to $1.5 million a year in sales tax revenue, according to Steiner.

The project could unlock growth at Liberty Way, five years after the interchange was finished in 2009, said Caroline McKinney, Liberty Twp. economic development director.

The company has been in talks for 11 months with Butler County for an approximately $55 million tax incentive deal to fund the construction of roads, utilities and parking garages, Steiner said.
