Workforce One of Butler County is planning a job fair for workers of BAE Systems.

The event will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the job center’s location, 4631 Dixie Hwy., Fairfield.

BAE Systems in West Chester Twp. does military and commercial vehicle armoring. It was announced in September that the military related operations would be moved to Texas, resulting in layoffs off approximately 160 people.

“We expect that job eliminations resulting from this program closure will begin on November 30, 2012, and the anticipated schedule for making separations will be monthly,” BAE Systems told the state workforce development office in a letter to notify government officials of the mass layoff.

The O’Gara Group, Inc. announced in October a $10 million deal to purchase BAE Systems Commercial Armored Vehicles LLC during the fourth quarter of 2012. That agreement spelled the end of BAE Systems’ presence in West Chester Twp. and a possible loss of about 50 jobs.

Workforce One is looking for more companies to participate in the job fair. Displaced workers from BAE Systems will have skills in welding, assembly line work and machine maintenance, as well as finance, engineering and logistics, according to Stewart Leonard, business services representative of Workforce One.

Businesses interested in being a part of the job fair should contact Leonard directly at 513-785-6511.

BAE Systems is giving employees career transition services, such as onsite resume writing and interviewing classes, and training seminars on financial management and training assistance, according to spokeswoman Shannon Booker. The training seminars will be held during the employees’ last week worked with BAE Systems, Booker said.
