Health plans to keep provisions of health reform

Staff Report

Humana Inc. said it will keep in place certain patient protections contained in federal health care reform, no matter how the U.S. Supreme Court rules on the act.

The Louisville, Ky., company made the announcement Monday in anticipation of a court ruling later this month. A similar announcement was also made by UnitedHealthcare.

The provisions Humana will maintain are: no lifetime dollar limits on policies; rescission standards; appeals and external review processes; coverage for dependents on family plans to age 26; and preventive services with no cost sharing, the company said.

Humana has approximately 500,000 Ohio medical members.
