CINCINNATI — Two area business expansions announced Tuesday are expected to open 93 jobs.

Bioformix, a manufacturer of adhesives, coatings and sealants, said it will consolidate to a new 24,000-square-foot headquarters and research facility in Clermont County, a move that will create 43 jobs, according to Cincinnati USA Partnership, the JobsOhio Network Partner for the Southwest Ohio region. The consolidation includes a relocation of a Connecticut research laboratory, according to Cincinnati USA.

Kao USA Inc., a consumer-package goods manufacturer of brands such as Ban, Curel and Jergens, said Cincinnati will become its new Americas headquarters. Japanese-owned Kao is projected to create 50 new jobs and retain 500 jobs, according to Cincinnati USA. Kao will make a $21 million investment in a new headquarters in downtown Cincinnati and in its current Spring Grove facilities.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich, JobsOhio President Mark Kvamme and Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber partnered to make the announcements. The jobs news from Bioformix and Kao joins a string of area business relocation and expansion announcements, Kasich said.

“The region’s starting to come along,” Kasich said. “It’s really starting to happen here. Ohio is coming out of the doldrums as well.”

The region has also had its share of recent job loss announcements, including the loss of Chiquita’s Cincinnati headquarters and Hamilton’s two paper mills that have closed or are winding down. The loss of jobs at Chiquita, Mohawk Fine Papers and SMART Papers could total more than 500 workers, according to notices filed with the state of the closings.
