DP&L opens training center for power plant workers

MANCHESTER — Dayton Power and Light Co., in a joint project with the labor union representing its linemen and electricity generating plant workers, has opened a training center for employees of the company’s Stuart, Killen and Hutchings generating stations.

Local 175 of the Utility Workers Union of America is providing seven members as instructors to lead training courses for power plant workers.

DP&L officials said the company invested $2.5 million in simulator equipment for training. The center offers more than 300 training programs and has 10 classrooms.

The Dayton-based utility has about 575 employees in its power generation business. The Stuart and Killen plants are located along the Ohio River and Hutchings is in Miamisburg.
