BAE lands second contract in a week

Staff Report

WEST CHESTER TWP. — BAE Systems’ Platform Survivability business has landed a $15 million contract with the U.S. government for commercial armored vehicles.

This contract was announced less than a week after the company secured a $7 million deal with Daimler Trucks North America.

The work will be performed at the West Chester location, 9113 LeSaint Drive, according to the company. Production will begin in the spring of next year and be finished by December of next year.

No jobs will be added by either contract, according to Jennifer Robinson, a spokeswoman for BAE.

BAE is the largest supplier of commercial armored vehicles to the U.S. government, according to the company.

On Wednesday, Oct. 6, BAE announced a $7 million contract with Daimler for military line haul tractors. However, the contract is less than a quarter of the value of BAE’s first $32 million contract with Daimler for the same product, according to BAE.

Last month, BAE announced layoffs of 300 people, bringing the total number of layoffs this year to more than 900. Several multi-year, large volume contracts ended this year and led to layoffs at the Platform Survivability Office, such as the U.S. Army’s Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles, Robinson SAID.

United-Kingdom-based BAE had sales of $36.2 billion last year, according to the company.
