Americans foresee bleak housing market

By Tim Tresslar

Staff Writer

Americans’ outlook on the housing markets has soured, with a majority saying the sector won’t rebound until 2014.

The results of a survey by Trulia and RealtyTrac showed attitudes about a recovery have soured since the last survey was conducted six months ago. At that time, 42 percent had looked for the market to improve in 2012 or believed it already had improved. That number has fallen to 23 percent, the survey found.

When it came to the federal government’s efforts to stop foreclosures, 45 percent said the government hasn’t done enough, the survey found. Seventeen percent say the government is doing too much to stop foreclosures. Another 16 percent said the government is doing plenty and 22 percent said they are unsure, the companies said.

The survey 2,018 adults was conducted by Harris Interactive between April 15 and 19.
