County OKs annexation case

By Dave Greber

HAMILTON — After several weeks of delay, Butler County commissioners gave the nod today, July 10, to a proposed annexation of St. Clair Twp. to the city of Trenton.

On May 15, the Trenton Church of God — in partnership with the Columbus-based Franklin Foundation — requested the annexation of 27.4 acres of its land to Trenton in order to construct a low-income housing development for local senior adults, according to St. Clair Twp. zoning officials.

Initially, the church said it wanted to tap into existing water and sewer lines so that its 32 employees — some of whom work for the church's day care operation — would not have to pay income taxes. According to the city's Web site, the income tax rate is 1.5 percent.

Water and sewer lines needed for the development were located in St. Clair Twp. but owned and maintained by the city of Trenton and could not be used.

Commissioners approved the review on Thursday.

The annexation will now go before Trenton City Council, which is expected to approve the plan later this summer.
