Attorney General Marc Dann, 46, a Democrat, took office Jan. 8, 2007. Here are some of his trouble spots he has encountered since then:

Jan. 2007: Dann taps Steve Lamantia to be interim superintendent of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification, which processes crime scene evidence and conducts background checks. But when Lamantia led Howland Twp. Police in Trumbull County, his property room was a mess and his policies were inadequate, according to a 120-page report by the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police.

Extras

April 2007: Dann fires his "top cop" Rick Alli and asks the Ohio Ethics Commission to investigate him for possible ethics violations. Alli failed to resign from his Youngstown Police Department job when he took the state job, according to Dann's office.

May 2007: Dann fires his driver, David Nelson, when a national criminal background check uncovers that he served time in prison for involuntary manslaughter in 1976 in Pennsylvania.

June 2007: Dann, standing on a street in an upper-middleclass neighborhood, spots a reporter who had written a story Dann didn't like. Dann yelled, "Hey Steve, write this down: Go (expletive) yourself!" TV cameras caught it on tape and it ended up on YouTube.

June 2007: Dann's office begins extensive security measures to protect the attorney general and his family from undisclosed threats. The security costs more than $145,000 over the next several months.

July 2007: Dann disciplines a BCI agent and his supervisor for sending a letter to Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. that criticized Heck's handling of a drug case.

November 2007: Christian groups are offended when it comes to light that Dann sent an insensitive e-mail to Communications Director Leo Jennings III on Good Friday. When Jennings got criticized in the press, Dann wrote "Jesus had it better on Good Friday."

December 2007: Dann disciplines Communications Director Leo Jennings III, his close friend for sending a profane, abusive e-mail to a co-worker in the fall.

January 2008: Dann discloses in his campaign fund report that he used the state plane for a political trip in August and used his state-owned SUV to travel to campaign events.

April 2008: Dann places his general services director, Anthony Gutierrez, on paid administrative leave after two female employees allege Gutierrez sexually harassed them. Communications Director Leo Jennings III was put on leave too after undisclosed information surfaced. Dann shared an apartment with Gutierrez and Jennings. Dann refuses calls to send the matter to an outside investigator and instead puts Tom Winters and Ben Espy, who both serve at his pleasure, in charge of an internal investigation.

April 2008: Attorney General Marc Dann retroactively authorizes his driver to carry a loaded, concealed weapon at all times as part of his job duties, even though he is not a law enforcement officer. Days later, Dann's office tells the driver to stop carrying his weapon on state property after the Department of Public Safety said it's against the law for non-police officers to carry concealed weapons on state property.

Ok, Rep. Donald Lukens had sex with a 16 year old girl, and maybe when she was young as 13. He did not resign, and he committed statutory rape. Come on now, seriously. Why is everyone going nuts over this, he didn’t rape anyone, no one died. People have done far worse, and not faced near this much scrutiny. He’s also doing a good job.

Back in 1998, both Ted Strickland and Sherrod Brown, then members of the U.S. House, loyally stood with President Bill Clinton and voted against the articles of impeachment brought by the Republicans. Bill Clinton was accused of far worse conduct than Marc Dann. So where’s their party loyalty now? Why does Marc Dann get thrown under the bus for stuff that Strickland and Brown gave Clinton a pass for ten years ago?

It is alleged that Dann’s most senior staff wrecked cars and failed to properly account for the damage, not once but three times. What is going on with the Strickland administration?? Do a few good Dann deeds outweigh the ongoing attacks of Strickland’s leaders on the vulnerable in our society? Now we read of ongoing sexual harassment and endorsement of sex toys in the AG’s office, followed by budget cuts to the depts. that protect abused and neglected children, and last weeks news of closure of mental health hospitals throughout the State of Ohio. The Strickland years, will be years of shame for Ohio.

Next, Marc Dann is a Lying, cheating, out for himself politician. Who cares what his political party is? While he has helped bring down others for similar things, he continued to behave in ways that were wrong. HE IS NOT WAHT HE CLAIMS TO BE! He is not the protector of the little guy. His hiring practices from what I can see were based on bra size and had nothing to do with experience or training. When he hires people directly from moveon.org there are problems. I don’t care if he’s banging his entire secretarial staff, that’s a choice between the 2, but for crying out loud, hire and bang experienced people! Then to admit he wasn’t experienced enough for the job? WTF did he run for the office for? Well, we all know now. I’m betting he had a blast with those young women!

Marc Dunn should be terminated BECAUSE he had a sexual relationship with a SUBORIDINATE. I have been working for over 31 years in the military, government and private sector. If nothing else, these posts show how ignorant Ohioans are. People think Dann was appointed and should be fired. One doesn’t know the difference between the “state retirement system” and workmen’s comp. Some Republicans conveniently forget all the stuff that went on during the Taft administration; some Democrats want to give Dann a break for minor consumer issues. One person stupidly thinks all state workers are reaping pay and benefits they could never get in the private sector. Sigh.

The big picture in all of this mess, and the mess from the previous administration is that the elected officials seem to think that somehow they deserve to be overpaid and overlooked for their actions once they are elected. The pay and benefits for any “public” servant is much higher than these clowns could earn in the private sector. One guy tells the woman she “owes” him because he helped her “score” a state job? It’s time to quit playing the partisan game. First, Mark Dann was elected; we cannot blame Governor Strickland. Governor Strickland cannot fire him. The Republicans made a mess of government while they held power. Kevin, your post demonstrates the worst of partisanship. How sickening it is for all these public figures who go out and screw around on their wives and then apologize to the public, saying they misbehaved, etc. They need their sorry asses kicked and then they should be thrown out of office!!!!!!!!! It’s refreshing to see a man and a woman have an affair. If this was a Repugnicant, he would have had an affair with a little boy or a farm animal.

Marc Dann should stay in office for as long as Foot-Tapper Larry Craig and Diaper Dave Vitter remain in power.

At least Dann doesn’t go around pretending to be some sort of moral exemplar of virtue, like Craig, Vitter, and so many other Repugnicants do.

The Repugnicant motto: do as we say, not as we do.

Marc Dann should use this as payback time.

Go after the corrupt Repugs in Butler County (Dynus)

Go after the corrupt Repugs in Clermont County (Walker)

Go after all the moralizing reporters, like none of them have ever banged a subordinate.

Go after the corrupt Repugs in Warren County

Go after the corrupt Repugs from Ashtabula to Zanesville, from Archbold to Ironton, and everywhere in between.

Hoist them on their own moralizing petards.

Go after the corporations, the price-gouging oil companies.

Show everyone what a fighter you are, Marc. This is why we elected you. Remind everyone what sort of corrupt morass you inherited after 16 years of Repugnicants plundering the state government and Treasury.

YOU are the reason Tom Noe is in jail and not wining and dining Governor Blackwell tonight.

YOU are the reason AOL and Time Warner aren’t ripping the public off anymore.

YOU are the reason our state retirement system is much closer to solvency than it was when Tom Noe and other corrupt Repugs were buying coins and Beanie Babies with public retirement funds.

You’ve got some top-notch people at your disposal. Now is the time to put an end to all this moralistic snooping into your personal life and go on offense.

Show the guts, the heart, and the spine you showed in the Senate, and you’ll get 70% of the vote next time.

It’s time to not just defeat the Repugs at the ballot box, but also in the Courthouse.

Every single person in Ohio who chooses to affiliate themselves with the Criminal Enterprise Formerly Known As The Republican Party bears some degree of knowledge of, or responsibility for, their damaging policies and their criminal practices in office.

It’s time to shut them down.

You haven’t broken any laws, Mr. Dann, but a truckload of Repugnicants from one end of this state to the other have.

Investigate, indict, imprision. That’s your job. Your job is not to answer questions from sex-starved moralists getting their jollies off asking you about your personal life.

Dann has admitted to using poor judgment. He has admitted to not being qualified. He has hired awful people to run his office. He was having an affair with a subordinate in his office. This created an environment in which his friends felt free to behave so poorly with their subordinates. He has also used his office as a means of attacking his political foes. I voted for Dann, but he should resign immediately and fall to his knees, begging forgiveness for being a little juvenile incompetent. There is no way he can or should survive this.

To the posters who claim this reflects on the Democratic Party - what, you haven’t heard about a few choice Republican scandals over the past 8 years? Seriously? Corruption and incompetence are not problems that afflict only one party.

I think i’ll take a sex scandal over coin-gate anyday. He’s done a really good job, and still is. His good heavily out weighs the bad.

If this was an ordinary citizen, they would be going to jail, but since these are politicians, they loe stheir job. Sounds like justice to the ordinary citizens and Getbysville for them( a slap on the wrist). No I am not satisfied. I am not happy with these Lowlife Politiciains who abuse their position and break the citizens trust they nned to be further punished. Let us make an example of them like they would do to us, especially Dannn who would send you or me to jail in a heart beat!!!!!!!!

Whoa there everyone, lets think this through. Times are hard and I for one could certainly use a job like this. Big Bucks, Free Car, Free Gas, Good Hours, and last but not least, look at the fringe benefits!!!!!!! I won’t eat crackers in bed!!!!! Hey there Danny Boy, hire me and I will throw some cash back your way. I am as qualified as you and your buddies, maybe even more, but I will be a good boy and help you cover your bases, and take care of your ladies while you are busy !!! Just call me!

Why is everyone surprised and disappointed? These are politicians/lawyers - the dregs of society. Our state government is a three ring circus with Dann and his cronies as the ring leaders(before we republicans get too smug, don’t forget Bob Taft and his clowns). That entire cesspool needs cleaned out.

Isn’t it great that Dann jumped to action and fired his friends but he gets to stay. He is just as guilty, by association and as a participant. Bet his friends are wondering why he gets to keep his job. Dann was worried about the people of Ohio playing the gambling machines because gambling is wrong. So is cheating on your wife and family.

Web, I’m guessing that you work for Dann. Hey, I just finished updating my resume. Can you get me an interview? I’ve been fired from 3 jobs for inter-office relationships, so I should be qualified… I need a new roommate too, hopefully Dann will let me move in. If so, party in Dublin—-EVERYONE’S INVITED!!!!

Marc Dann recently enrolled in the Elliot Spitzer school of Attorneys General who run for governor. Thank god he didn’t graduate.

What a disgrace. It is embarrassing to the legal community when a fellow attorney acts in this manner, especially one in such a high office. I definitely think he should resign post-haste. I have absolutely NO CONFIDENCE in his leadership.

This goes out to Web Smith. It is our business - especially when they are using Tax Payers money to play. Anthony Gutierrez has recked 3 state vehicles at the expense of Tax Payers. Lets keep this real. You should never carry on a relationship within the office - Especially knowing you’re MARRIED!

It really is hard to understand what this preoccupation is with who is having or had sex with who and why it’s anyone’s business.

Did Congress pass a law making it illegal?

Shoot, gimme a job in THIS office. I would like to get paid that yearly salary, party w/ all the secretaries, hire whoever I wanted, get drunk and wreck my state vehicle numerous times. Does it really get any better than this?

Let me get this straight - this was the Internal Investigation? What would an impartial investigation reveal? It would seem we have the Youngstown Mafia running the State of Ohio AG office. We need to get to the bottom of this. Call in the OHP and find out what is really going on over there.

Dann should resign immediately. The Governor and the Ohio Democratic Party should call for his resignation, but this is unlikely to happen. Dann’s affair with a subordinate is not coincidental to the sexual harassment that occurred in his office, but a precursor and basis for it. His unqualified cronies merely followed Dann’s lead. I imagine the local Dairy Queen is ran with more professionalism and integrity than this Attorney General’s office.

I’m not satisfied in the least! Dann’s behavior is reminiscent of Bill Clinton’s Oval Room antics. How dare an AG stand in judgment of any citizen of Ohio, when he himself cannot control his own lustful adulterous ways.

He needs to go!
