Jeff See will represent Ohio State University for the second straight year in the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships today through Saturday, June 11-13 at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
The Middletown High School graduate will run in the semifinals at 9:10 p.m. today. The finals will be held on Saturday.
See earned All-American honors at the championships last June, finishing fifth in a time of 3 minutes, 43.13 seconds.
See also competed in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships May 29-31 in Louisville, Ky.
His time of 3:45.81 in the 1,500 run preliminaries was the third-fastest of the day. He ran 3:49.73 to finish fifth in finals.
See was injured for most of this spring season, but is peaking at the right time with a top time on the year of 3:44.88 at the Oregon Twilight on May 9.
The time was fourth-best in the Big Ten this season, and it helped him earn the Big Ten athlete of the week honor.
It was See’s second weekly outdoor track athlete of the week award after winning the award May 6, 2008 after his performance in the 1,500 run at the 2008 Jesse Owens Classic.
See ranks as one of the top 50 1,500-meter runners in all of the NCAA. See also ran a regional time in the mile at the Jesse Owens Classic in a time of 4:04.95.
More track and field
• Michael Veatch (Middletown) nearly ran his best time of the season on May 30 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Mideast Regional, but the eighth-place finish was just short of what was needed to advance to the NCAA Championship.
The Miami University senior ran the regional race in 8:57.11, less than half a second slower than the 8:56.85 time he posted at the Miami Invitational in April. Veatch was in the top six with about 600 meters left, but faded at the end. Veatch also has been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team with a 3.50 GPA majoring physical education major.
