If you’re a racing fan and you complain about not getting enough live auto racing after this weekend, well, you’re just not trying hard enough.
Starting with a rare doubleheader race night at Kil-Kare, continuing with IndyCar racing fun in Kentucky and then ending with local drag racing at Tri-State Dragway, fans could catch at least a dozen racing events in three days.
“John!” you say. “I’m a racing fan, too. How do I see 12 races in three days?”
Tonight, July 31
Head north to Xenia’s Kil-Kare Raceway.
In hopes of making up for at least one of the rained out events they’ve had this season, Kil-Kare is offering race fans a double feature in each of their racing divisions.
Fans can catch two feature events from the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series late models, modifieds, sports stocks and compacts divisions. Plus, the Indiana Kentucky Ohio Minicup Series will race that night.
Not sure if the IKO minicup cars will race twice, but tonight alone would give you at least nine feature races to enjoy. Hamilton’s Matthew Lorance and West Chester Twp.’s Courtney Hannah have raced in the IKO Series.
Better yet, the fine folks at Kil-Kare are offering their regular price of admission for all the action. Adult admission is just $10, while kids 12-15 pay $5. Those younger than 12 can get in free as long as they’re accompanied by an adult. Gates open at 6 p.m. with racing set to begin at 8.
Saturday: IndyCar in Kentucky
Next, head down to Sparta, Ky., for Saturday night’s IndyCar and Indy Lights events. Gates open at 2 p.m.
The 67-lap Kentucky Indy Lights 100 race is set for 5 p.m., followed by a concert by modern rock group Carolina Liar. The Meijer Indy 300 Presented by Red Baron and Edy’s is scheduled for an 8:45 p.m. start.
My wife and I will be in Section 4F, Row 29 in seats 13 and 14. Feel free to stop over and visit us.
Sunday: Drag Racing at Tri-State
Head on over to Tri-State Dragway on Sunday for the NHRA National Dragster Challenge, and watch the area’s finest Super Pro and Pro division drag-racers vie for the chance to win an NHRA Wally Trophy.
West Chester Twp.’s John Cook is Tri-State’s current points leader in Super Pro; Amelia’s two-time track champ Kevin Bishop has his “Mighty Mouse” Camaro atop the charts in the Pro division.
Gates open at 9:30 a.m. with time trials set for 10 a.m. and racing slated for 1 p.m. Race fans and crew pay $10 to get in, with kids 11 and younger allowed in for free.
