Kil-Kare Speedway celebrates its racing history tonight with Old Timers’ Night, and with that comes the induction of the speedway’s inaugural Hall of Fame class.

Twenty-five drivers, three car owners and two track employees are set to receive the honor.

Among them is former driver Don Wilbur. The Dayton resident goes into two halls of fame this season, also joining the Dayton Speedway shrine in November. Thirty names are on the Kil-Kare list, but Wilbur and the other recipients know it should be much longer.

“If anybody ever thinks they’re a one-man band, they’re wrong,” Wilbur said of the behind-the-scenes support from family, racing crews and sponsors. “This award should be Wilbur, family and crew.”

So, with 25 drivers going in, who was the best? That question was posed to Wilbur who, just like his racing style, didn’t shy away from the challenge.

“Jack was probably as good as anybody on there,” Wilbur said of legendary Springfield driver and car owner Jack Bowsher.

Jerry Wahl and Ed Crowder played key roles in organizing tonight’s celebration.

McIntosh on MTV: Miamisburg native Shannon McIntosh will appear in the docu-reality special “MTV Presents Seventeen Magazine’s Pretty Amazing Contest” on Tuesday.

The show airs at 8 p.m.

MTV profiles McIntosh, who competes in the IndyCar USF2000 series, along with the four other finalists competing for Seventeen Magazine’s October cover.

Should she earn the cover, McIntosh would be the first athlete to do so since Olympic skater Dorothy Hamill in 1976.

“To think just a year ago I wasn’t racing full-time yet and today have the opportunity to appear on an MTV special is very humbling,” McIntosh said.

McIntosh, 22, is featured in the magazine’s September issue currently on newsstands.

Eldora on big screen: Eldora Speedway also prepares for its close-up during the World 100 on Sept. 9-10.

Details are guarded — including the movie’s title and the actors — but footage from the grandstands, on the track and in the pits will appear in a major motion picture about a racing mechanic who dreams of driving even after becoming paralyzed.
