Tad Kilburn finally had the opportunity to prove he belonged on the Ball State University football team this past weekend and he did not let it go by.
The 2006 Monroe High School graduate, who was one of 12 preferred walk-ons for the Cardinals his freshman year, finally saw his first action on Saturday, Oct. 24, as BSU defeated Eastern Michigan, and Kilburn recorded his first college tackle.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Kilburn said Tuesday. “It’s nice to get back on the field. I wouldn’t call it extra special, but it felt good to do it. I was really just doing my job.”
Of those 12 preferred walk-ons in 2006, Kilburn and one other player are the only ones remaining with the team.
“I’ve always had the confidence that I could do it,” Kilburn said. “So when the opportunity came, I had to perform. I’m happy that I took care of it. Hopefully, there will be more in the future.”
Ball State has four games remaining this season, which will be Kilburn’s last as he will graduate in May.
