OXFORD — Miami University’s 2010 football schedule won’t be any less daunting than last year’s in terms of the opposition, but this time the RedHawks won’t have to wait so long to enjoy the comforts of home.

Miami will play seven bowl teams, starting with the opener at Florida on Sept. 4, but three of its first five games will be played at Yager Stadium.

“It’s important for us to come home (for the second game) and play Eastern Michigan and get into our Mid-American Conference schedule,” Miami coach Michael Haywood said.

“Playing at home early in great weather gives our student athletes a boost,” he noted. “They play off the support of the fans we have coming out for the games.”

Last season Miami played its first four games and six of its first seven away from Oxford. Miami, which finished 1-11, also faced two BCS bowl teams in Boise State and Cincinnati.

This season the RedHawks will play at home against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 11, Colorado State on Sept. 18 and Kent State on Oct. 2.

Haywood called Miami’s opener at Florida “a great opportunity to play for a team that will contend for the national championship.”

In addition to Florida and Colorado State, Miami’s non-conference schedule also includes games at Missouri on Sept. 25 and at Cincinnati on Oct. 9.

Miami will play at defending-MAC champion Central Michigan on Oct. 16.

“I’m looking forward to playing them and their spread offense,” Haywood said.

The RedHawks will finsh October at home against the defending MAC East Division champions, the Ohio Bobcats, on Oct. 23 and then at Buffalo on Oct. 30.

Miami’s final three regular-season contests will be mid-week games at Bowling Green on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Akron on Wednesday, Nov. 17 and at home against Temple on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
