MU clinches share of MAC tennis title

HAMILTON — The Miami University women’s tennis team edged Akron 4-3 Friday to clinch a share of the Mid-American Conference championship.

The doubles point, won by Miami, was the difference as the teams split the six singles matches.

Miami improved to 16-5 overall, 7-0 in the league with its 24th straight MAC regular-season victory. The RedHawks can claim the title outright with a win today over Buffalo.

Miami has won or shared 17 conference titles since 1981.

Miami baseball game suspended

AKRON — Miami University’s baseball game Friday at Akron was suspended by rain with the RedHawks leading 4-2 with two outs in the top of the fourth inning.

Miami took the lead in the fourth on a two-run single by Ryan Brenner.

The game is scheduled to resume today at noon, and then the teams will try to complete their three-game series by playing a doubleheader.

Torres homer gives MU dramatic win

OXFORD — Daniela Torres’ two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a three-run rally and gave Miami University’s softball team a 3-2 victory over Buffalo and a split in a doubleheader.

The Bulls won the opener 5-3. Miami’s leading hitters were Kat Russette, 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI; Kristy Arbour, 3-for-4; and Allie Larrabee, a solo home run, the first of her career.

Miami is 22-18, 5-7 in the Mid-American Conference. Buffalo stands 10-27, 5-5 in the MAC.

MU women’s soccer team tops Indiana

OXFORD — After battling through injuries early in its spring exhibition season the Miami University women’s soccer team capped its seven-match schedule with a pair of 2-0 wins, including the finale over Indiana on Wednesday night in Bloomington.

The RedHawks finished the spring with a 4-2-1 record, also knocking off Indiana State in their lone home match on April 16.

Miami’s goals against the Hoosiers were scored by rising sophomore Sydney Busch and rising junior Jess Kodiak. Rising sophomore Madison Ryan earned her second straight shutout in net and fourth of the spring season.
