CLEVELAND — The Bowling Green women’s basketball team played exactly like a No. 1 seed when the Falcons beat the Miami RedHawks 91-58 on Wednesday, March 10, in the Mid-American Conference tournament quarterfinals.
“I’m proud of my young team and humbled by a very good Bowling Green team,” Miami coach Maria Fantanarosa said. “They’ve had a great season and they showed why today, both offensively and defensively.”
Bowling Green (25-6) hit 13-of-20 shots from the 3-point arc and made 50 percent of their field goal attempts. Miami (9-22) shot just 35.9 percent from the field.
The Falcons’ 33-point margin of victory was the largest in program history against Miami, the No. 8 seed.
“This was a great win for the program,” Bowling Green coach Curt Miller said. “We’re excited about how we played today. We wanted to get the game up-tempo. We did that when we played them at home but we could not do that in Oxford.”
The Falcons struggled when they played at Millett Hall last week and defeated Miami by just five points.
“Being at Millett Hall (for that game) did help us, but also we were down a couple players today and had some freshmen playing at Quicken Loans Arena for the first time,” Fantanarosa said.
Miami played without sophomore forwards Rachael Henke and Erin Wisner, both of whom are injured.
Freshman Kirsten Olowinski led Miami with 16 points and eight rebounds.
MAC Freshman of the Year Courtney Osborn added 10 points, four assists and three steals for Miami, Maggie Boyer scored nine points, and senior Ashleigh Brown totaled eight points and 10 rebounds in her final game as a RedHawk.
Bowling Green was led by Tara Breske (20 points), MAC Player of the Year Lauren Prochaska (15 points), Tamika Nurse (14 points, 4-for-4 from the 3-point stripe) and Jen Uhl (11 points, eight rebounds).
