Hamilton (1-2) at Lakota West (2-1)

Last year: Did not meet

Last week: Hamilton 31, Taft 23; Lakota West 35, Kettering Fairmont 7

Hamilton will win if ... it gets another big game out of junior RB Devin Jarrett. After senior QB Drew Townsend left last week’s game with an injury, Jarrett picked up the slack with 127 rushing yards on 20 carries and a TD.

Lakota West will win if ... senior RB Jordan Thompson continues his torrid pace. Thompson, in his first year on varsity, has already rushed for 419 yards and five TDs, including a 157-yard, two-score effort in last week’s victory.

Lakota East (0-3) at Colerain (1-2)

Last year: Did not meet

Last week: La Salle 34, Lakota East 7; Colerain 42, Louisville (Ky.) duPont Manual 0

Lakota East will win if ... it can control the clock with senior RB Pedro Powell, who’s putting together a fine season despite the team’s struggles. Powell has racked up three straight 100-yard rushing efforts to start the year for 335 yards total.

Colerain will win if ... its triple-option offense is clicking on all cylinders, as it was in last week’s blowout win. QB Greg Tabor (415 yards, TD), and RBs Trayion Durham (138, TD) and Tyler Williams (128, 2 TDs) are the main threats.

Mason (1-2) at Oak Hills (2-1)

Last year: Did not meet

Last week: Gahanna Lincoln 14, Mason 3; Oak Hills 22, Walnut Ridge 0

Mason will win if ... quarterback Alex Farren gets back to where he was in the first two games, completing passes and making quick decisions. The Comets desperately need to gain some traction with their ground game, this will fall on Gabe Shreve and the offensive line.

Oak Hills will win if ... the Highlanders can wear down the Comets defense with their downhill running attack. Oak Hills will try to control the clock and keep Mason off the field, so any turnovers by the Comets could become costly.

Kettering Alter (3-0) at Badin (3-0)

Last year: Alter 56, Badin 7; Alter 42, Badin 7 (playoffs)

Last week: Alter 27, Washington (D.C.) St. John 12; Badin 14, Ross 7

Alter will win if ... the Knights are able to control the line of scrimmage and move the ball effectively on the ground. If they can do that, they’ll wear the Rams down while keeping their own rock-hard defense fresh all night.

Badin will win if ... the Rams get a big-time aerial performance from quarterback Patrick Coyne. Alter is very good defensively across the board, but the Knights are more vulnerable through the air — they’ve allowed just 206 rushing yards in three games.

Fairfield (1-2) at Princeton (2-1)

Last year: Did not meet

Last week: Winton Woods 36, Fairfield 0; Princeton 27, Glen Este 21 (OT)

Fairfield will win if ... the Indians can find some offense. They’ve only scored 24 points combined in their first three games, and they’ll probably need at least that many tonight to beat the Vikings.

Princeton will win if ... LSU-bound Spencer Ware can maintain his dual-threat label. Last week the Princeton quarterback ran for 155 yards, but he only completed 10-of-30 passes for 94 yards and two interceptions. If he can’t keep a solid Fairfield defense honest with some effective passing, it could be a long night for the hosts.

Sycamore (2-1) at Middletown (3-0)

Last year: Did not meet

Last week: Sycamore 23, Roger Bacon 10; Middletown 61, Lima Senior 7

Sycamore will win if ... DeCarlos Smith can find some holes to run through in the Middletown defense. The Aviators running back has totaled 324 yards on 61 carries and three touchdowns so far this season.

Middletown will win if ... it continues to spread the ball around to its numerous offensive weapons. Kevin Watts was the latest weapon to shine as he totaled three touchdowns with 114 yards rushing and 54 yards receiving in the Middies’ win over Lima Senior.

Fenwick (3-0) at Purcell Marian (1-2)

Last year: Fenwick 27, Purcell Marian 21 (2OT)

Last week: Fenwick 63, Talawanda 28; Reading 27, Purcell Marian 7

Fenwick will win if ... it continues to put up such impressive offensive numbers. The Falcons are averaging 319 rushing yards per game and have 958 total rushing yards through three games. Joey Robertson (358 rushing yards) and Sam Keegan (341 rushing yards) have combined for 12 rushing touchdowns.

Purcell Marian will win if ... the defense can slow down the Falcons offense. Purcell Marian is allowing just 20 points per game on average through three games, and the defense also has three interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

Waynesville (2-1) at Carlisle (3-0)

Last year: Waynesville 25, Carlisle 13

Last week: Waynesville 48, Dayton Christian 26; Carlisle 54, Oakwood 17

Waynesville will win if ... senior back Seth Millar continues to rack up yardage on the ground. Through three games, Millar has gained 438 yards on just 38 carries. He has six touchdowns and averages 11.5 yards per carry.

Carlisle will win if ... Nick McGill and Jordon Jacobs have a day like they did last week against Oakwood. McGill notched 173 combined yards rushing and receiving for two scores while Jacobs returned kicks for 189 yards and two more touchdowns. Carlisle’s defense has to continue to be stingy in yielding points as well. The Indians have given up an average of 10 points a game so far.
