BOYS SOCCER

MONROE 3, FRANKLIN 0: Alex Hall, Julio Leon and Zach Halbrock each scored for the Hornets (3-0) on Saturday, Sept. 4. Holbrock also had an assist, as did Jamey King and Josh McCaughland. Patrick McIntosh recorded the shutout and Connor McEwen also played well for Monroe. Franklin fell to 3-1.

MIDDLETOWN 2, VALLEY VIEW 1: Junior Phillips scored both goals for the Middies, and Graham Rudd and Ben Kueker had the assists.

GIRLS SOCCER

FENWICK WINS, THEN LOSES: The Falcons defeated Guerin Catholic (Ind.) 3-0 on Friday, Sept. 3 and then fell to Bishop Spalding (Md.) 2-1 on Saturday at the Zionsville Lady Eagle Invitational in Indianapolis. In Friday’s contest, Sydney Neal had a goal and assist for Fenwick, MacKenzie Hamilton and Meghan Blank also scored and Kelci McHugh added an assist. In the contest against Bishop Spalding, the fourth-ranked team in the ESPN Rise national poll, Blank scored an unassisted goal and Katie Rhodes and Emily Ross played strong defense for the Falcons (1-1-1).

MONROE 3, FRANKLIN 1: Makenzie Sullivan scored two goals for the Hornets (3-1), Taylor Lambert scored one, and Kelsey Black and Brooklyne Mason each had an assist on Saturday. Sydney Lovelace scored for Franklin, which slipped to 1-4.

MIDDLETOWN 4, VALLEY VIEW 1: Middie goals were scored by Janee Calhoun, Kabrea Grewe and Blake Davis on Saturday, and an own goal also was credited. Laveikah David had two assists and Katie Noble recorded four saves.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

ROSS 3, MONROE 1: The Hornets fell to the Rams 25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19 in a match played on Saturday, Sept. 4. Leading players for Monroe were Kayla Mulvihill, 35 assists; Beth McGuire, 15 digs; and Sam Streibick and Regan Reece, both with five blocks.

EDGEWOOD GOES 1-2 IN QUAD: The Cougars lost to Valley View 25-23, 25-19 and to Madison 25-17, 25-7 and defeated Northridge 25-12, 25-23 on Saturday. Leading players for Edgewood were Suzanne Frizell, defense; Erin Sharp, hitting; and Amanda Hobbs, footwork.

CROSS COUNTRY

MIDDLETOWN BOYS PLACE 11TH: The Middies were led on Saturday, Sept. 4, at the 28-team Lebanon Invitational by Dustin Dalton, 13th in 16 minutes, 21 seconds; Andy Bowyer, 17th in 16:36; Will Parsons, 82nd in 17:58; Brian Johnson, 105th in 18:31; Jesse Combs, 159th in 20:16; and Thomas Beckmyer, 163rd in 20:40.

MIDDLETOWN CHRISTIAN TEAMS FINISH FOURTH: The Eagles placed fourth in both the varsity boys and girls races at their own Middletown Christian Eagle Invitational on Saturday. Fenwick placed third in the girls event and Madison was seventh. The Falcons were led by Alyssa Zearley, ninth in 21 minutes, 34 seconds. Fenwick was seventh in the boys race and Madison was ninth.
