Monroe puts up strong finish to beat Brookville, 56-42

MONROE — Monroe High School’s boys basketball team pulled away with a strong fourth quarter and defeated Brookville 56-42 Friday night in a Southwestern Buckeye League Southwestern Division game.

Manny Boateng scored a game-high 15 points for the Hornets, who outscored Brookville 17-9 in the final period. Chris Sloneker added 12 points for the winners, Larison Taylor had nine and Coleman Cameron scored eight,

Mount Healthy 45, Edgewood 38: Mason Back scored 22 points for the second straight game and also came up with five steals for the Cougars (1-12, 1-7 FAVC). Teammate Cody Hall grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.

Chaminade Julienne 49, Fenwick 30: The Falcons were held to nine points in the second half of Friday’s Greater Catholic League contest. Frank Catrine led Fenwick with eight points.

Justin Bibbs scored 17 points for Chaminade Julienne, which improved to 10-5 overall, 6-3 in the GCL.

Yellow Springs 65, Middletown Christian 59: The Eagles slipped to 9-5, 4-3 in the Metro Buckeye Conference on Friday despite balanced scoring from Zach Wise (17 points), Josh Hall (12) and Josh Hutson (12).

Yellow Springs (4-9, 3-4 MBC) was led by Robbie Jones with 17 points and Roland Newsome with 16.

Preble Shawnee 58, Milton-Union 48: David Willoughby scored 16 points for the Arrows and Jake Elam added 12 in Friday night’s contest.

Preble Shawnee, which took a 26-11 halftime lead, evened its record at 7-7 overall.

Springboro 68, West Carrollton 58: Morgan Maverick erupted for 25 points for the Panthers, who outscored West Carrollton 40-24 in the second half. Jack Mapes contributed 16 points for the winners and Matt Delbridge had 11.

Drew Layton scored 17 points for West Carrollton.
