CLAYTON — Middletown High School’s boys cross country team finished third in the Division I district meet Saturday, Oct. 24, earning its 13th straight regional berth.
The Middies trailed Beavercreek and Lebanon in Race B at the Miami Valley Career Technical Center. The best four teams and top 16 individuals advance to the regional meet at Troy next Saturday.
Leading Middletown were Andy Bowyer (seventh, 17:48.34), Dustin Dalton (17th, 18:09.14), Brian Johnson (20th, 18:14.74), Gabe Staton (21st, 18:23.35) and David Cole (22nd, 18:27.18).
Lebanon’s top runners were Alex Rowland (sixth, 17:43.41), Richard Patterson (13th, 17:54.41), Levi Weible (15th, 18:06.23), Tad Masthay (18th, 18:11.51) and Bryan Reed (29th, 18:48.91).
Springboro was sixth and led by Matthew Gilbert, who finished 23rd in 18:29.78.
Division II boys
Valley View finished ninth and Franklin was 11th in Race A at Clayton.
The lone regional qualifier was the Spartans’ Jake Kasperski, who placed second in 17:01.58. The Wildcats were led by Jeremy Ruppert (36th, 19:06.21)
In Race B, Nick Hull was 30th (19:29.76) for Fenwick, which finished seventh as a team.
Division III boys
Middletown Christian placed 11th at Voice of America Park. The Eagles were paced by Joshua Willoughby, who was 31st in 20:12.80.
Division I girls
Lebanon took first place in Race A at the Miami Valley Career Tech Center with 37 points, and Grace VanDeGrift was the individual champion in 20:13.20.
Other top Warrior runners were Hayley Stegemiller (fourth, 20:48.57), Hannah Turpin (fifth, 20:57.11), Jade Kinney (12th, 21:36.49) and Jacqueline Lewis (15th, 21:46.56).
In Race B, Springboro was the team winner with 26 points.
The Panthers were led by Rachael Mahle (second, 19:49.06), Katie Kessler (fourth, 20:34.39), Alex Mahle (fifth, 21:02.29), Heather Baruxes (sixth, 21:09.56) and Sarah Smith (ninth, 21:23.07).
Division II girls
Fenwick finished eighth and Valley View was 12th in the team standings in Clayton.
Erika White paced the Falcons with a 25th-place finish in 22:34.40. The Spartans’ Sara Whitestone was 58th in 24:32.02.
Monroe didn’t run as a team, though the Hornets’ Emily Black placed 52nd in 24:06.07.
Division III girls
Middletown Christian’s Gayle Cobb finished 12th at Voice of America Park, but only the top eight advance from that race. Cobb’s time was 24:22.00.
