Franklin girls edge Northridge 55-54
DAYTON — Franklin High School’s girls basketball team improved to 5-14 on Monday, posting a 55-54 road victory over Dayton Northridge.
Sydney Lovelace scored 16 points and Lindsay McNichols added 13 for the Wildcats. Hayley Jones and Ashley Selby had eight points apiece.
Franklin ends the regular season at home against Monroe on Thursday.

Mavunga earns MAC East honor
CLEVELAND — Behind two strong performances last week that helped lift Miami University’s men’s basketball team to its first back-to-back wins this season, senior forward Julian Mavunga was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week on Monday.
Mavunga has recorded double-doubles in four-straight games and has 13 double-doubles this season and 27 for his career. For the week, Mavunga averaged 14.5 ppg, 14.5 rpg and 6.5 apg while shooting 40 percent from the field and 77.3 percent from the free-throw line. He never came off the floor in either game.

MCS slips to 1-18 with loss to Eagles
MIDDLETOWN — The Middletown Christian School girls basketball team fell to 1-18 overall and 0-11 in the Metro Buckeye Conference with Monday’s 71-30 loss to visiting Troy Christian.
Rachel Spahr scored 15 points and Allie Burton added 10 for the Eagles, who will close the regular season at home Friday against Dayton Christian.

National award for MU’s Harwell
CHICAGO — Miami University’s Nick Harwell (Missouri City, Texas) was named winner of the Mercedes-Benz National Receiver Performance of the Year, Intersport announced Sunday.
Harwell won Week 10 voting with his school-record breaking 15-reception, 229-yard, two-touchdown performance in a tough 24-21 loss to Temple.
Harwell joins McMurry’s Jake Mullin named FRS Quarterback Performance of the Year, Purdue’s Akeem Shavers named Marines Running Back Performance of the Year, and Nevada’s Brett Roy named Defensive Performance of the Year.

RedHawks sign 8 to letters of intent
OXFORD — Miami University field hockey coach Inako Puzo announced Monday the signing of eight future RedHawks to national letters of intent.
They are Angela Amon (Louisville, Ky./Assumption), Camerin Colby (Downington, Pa./Downington West), Kasey Hess (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra), Lizi Kuhl (Louisville, Ky./Assumption), Jenna Mengle (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland), Pauline Shih (Clarksville, Md./River Hill), Demi Wideman (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne Oak Hill) and Sarah Scott Worth (Raleigh, N.C./Saint Mary’s).
This is a talented group that features state championship winners and several all-state honorees. The average GPA is 3.7.
