FRANKLIN — It was Senior Night, it was Fan Appreciation Night and it was Franklin’s night as the Wildcats bashed Brookville 38-0 on Friday night at Veteran’s Memorial Field at Atrium Stadium.

Franklin (6-3, 3-2 SWBL Southwestern) charged out to a 17-0 halftime lead thanks to a 111-yard first-half passing performance by quarterback Ben Sizemore, a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs by Cody Priest and a 21-yard field goal by Jordan Pruitt.

The Wildcats defense then sealed the deal with a solid performance.

They limited Brookville (5-4, 2-3 SWBL Southwestern) to just 83 yards on the ground and created four turnovers.

“Our defense, what can you say?” said Franklin coach Rodney Roberts. “Coach (Brad) Childers, Sean Carnes, Mike Cox, Tom Parker, Mark Wolfinbarger — I hope I didn’t leave anybody out on the defensive staff — they did a fantastic job. Brookville had been scoring some points, and this bunch shut them out.”

Senior defensive back Taylor Briggs swiped one interception. He also swiped a ball out of the hands of a Blue Devils running back, then returned the fumble recovery 37 yards for a Wildcats score.

“This was one of our better defensive games, easily,” Briggs said. “Best game we’ve had. I was excited on that fumble return, I wanted to score for the seniors.”

Given plenty of time behind the Wildcat offensive line, Sizemore picked apart the Brookville secondary.

He completed the first six passes he threw. Sizemore finished with 157 yards passing, completing 13-of-19 pass attempts, in the win.

His main targets were junior wideout Justin Salyers and senior tight end Jordan Smith. The two combined for 87 receiving yards.

Brookville coach Mike Hetrick said the Devils’ troubles started early.

“It started with bad field position to start the game and got worse from there,” he said. “Franklin’s kids played better than we did, and they were coached better than we did. We just gotta bounce back from this next week, and finish the season strong.”
