Emily Amburgey has done it again.
The Ohio Wesleyan University freshman broke her own school record for the pentathlon by totaling 2,682 points to finish second overall in the five-event competition at the North Coast Athletic Conference indoor championships March 5-6 at Denison University.
Amburgey (Preble Shawnee) first set the school record with 2,549 points while representing Ohio Wesleyan in the second annual OWU Pentathlon meet Feb. 20.
The five events are the 55-meter hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump and 800 run.
Amburgey, who was named All-NCAC in two events, also finished second in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 1/4 inches, fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (9.39 seconds) and sixth in the long jump (15-6 1/4).
Women’s indoor track
• Cassie Mattia (Fenwick) placed 24th in the preliminary race of the 600-meter run at the NAIA Indoor National Championships on March 6.
The University of Rio Grande junior middle distance runner completed the race in 1:40.12, which is slightly more than one second off her school record time of 1:38.98 in the event.
Men’s indoor track
• Ohio State University All-American senior Jeff See (Middletown) won the 3,000-meter run at the Big Ten Indoor Track championships with a time of 8:06.46, and then followed that up with a third-place finish in the mile (4:06.39).
• Wilmington’s Braden McMonigle (Monroe) won the high jump at the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track Championships held Feb. 27 at Marietta College.
He cleared 6 feet, 6 3/4 inches to win the event.
• Wilmington’s Mitch Howard (Valley View) finished fourth in the 500-meter dash (1:08.3) and seventh in the triple jump (42-9) at the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track Championships held Feb. 27 at Marietta College.
Women’s basketball
• Wilmington senior Marianne McGoron (Fenwick) completed her college career as one of the school’s all-time top assists leaders.
McGoron’s season ended Feb. 23 when the Quakers lost 77-63 to Ohio Northern in the OAC conference tournament.
She ranks fourth all-time on the assists list with 322. She also scored 758 points in her four years at Wilmington.
