Ken Cohen was a two-sports standout at Middletown High School. Paul Fernandez took Ramball to state prominence. Dominic “Dom” Scrimizzi was a multi-sports star in the military. All three will be part of the 28th class of inductees into the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame.

Cohen, Fernandez and Scrimizzi will join nine other inductees in ceremonies to be held Sunday, Nov. 29 at The Courtyard by Marriott in Hamilton.

The other new hall-of-famers will be Dick Ballard, Tony Bradley, Norm Grevey Jr., Patrick Kreke, Marianne Morris, Travis Myers, Di Armogida Princell and Tyrice Walker.

Cohen played from 1964-66 at Middletown High and in basketball earned a third-team selection in the Greater Ohio League as a senior.

He also ran track, where he set school records in the high jump, shot put and discus throw. He qualified for the state meet in the high jump in 1966.

Cohen went on to play basketball at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a team captain in 1970 while leading the team to a 25-2 record and an undefeated season in the Ivy League.

Fernandez has been coach of the Ross High School softball team for the past 18 years, and in that time, the Rams have won one state championship (2009), five regional titles, 11 district championships and 18 Fort Ancient Valley Conference titles.

He has a 445-82 record and ranks fifth in the state for career wins in any division.

Fernandez also coached boys basketball for three years and girls basketball for three years without a losing season.

Scrimizzi, who attended Hamilton Catholic High School, played baseball, basketball and football for three years while in the military at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and one more year in Washington D.C.

While playing baseball for Wright-Patterson he had a career batting average of over .400.

Scrimizzi then played semi-pro baseball in the Buckeye League for seven years and was a five-time all-star.

A general reception will begin at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 and the induction program at 7.
