3 former Middies excel with BGSU

Three former Middletown High School football players were close to home Thursday night, Nov. 12, when the Bowling Green State University football team traveled to Oxford for a Mid-American Conference battle with Miami University.

Senior wide receiver Chris Wright, and freshmen offensive linemen Chip Robinson and Blaec Walker play for the Falcons, who won the game 35-14.

Coming into the game, Wright was the team’s second-leading wide receiver with 33 receptions for 451 yards and two touchdowns, which already is more than he had all of last season. He added one more catch for 9 yards against the RedHawks.

For his career at BG, Wright has 82 receptions for 1,079 yards and six touchdowns.

Robinson (6-foot-6, 327 pounds) and Walker (6-5, 300) have started several games this season.

• Eric Wenzler (Springboro) is one of four Ohio Northern players to be named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV. The fourth-year junior defensive back, who has started 25 games for the Polar Bears and this season has 35 tackles and two interceptions, was selected to the second team.

In his career at ONU, Wenzler has 111 tackles, six interceptions and 13 pass breakups. He also was an Academic All-District selection to the second team in 2007.

Women’s Soccer

• Kellie Gustin (Springboro) ranks fourth in points for Capital University.

She has three goals and four assists for a total of 10 points.

• Maggie Hinkle (Monroe) and Shannon Donoher (Fenwick) both are freshmen members of the University of Dayton squad that is making its first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2004.

Hinkle has played in eight games and Donoher has played in six for the Flyers.

• Bethany Davidson (Monroe) recently was named to the Ohio Valley Conference second team. The Morehead State University senior had three goals and four assists this season.
