Here’s your chance to get pink hair extensions in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

If that idea seems too adventurous for you, there are other ways to participate in Cut for a Cure, the annual fundraising event sponsored by Elder-Beerman stores.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 16, guests can select from a menu of spa and hair treatments including mini-facials, manis/pedis and highlights at prices ranging from $8 to $25.

Proceeds will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Participating Elder-Beerman stores include Dayton Mall, Northwest Dayton, Huber Heights, Beavercreek and Middletown.

The Bon Ton Stores, which include Elder-Beermans have donated more than $3.9 million through its Charge Against Breast Cancer program. In the past four years, Cut for a Cure has generated more than $34,999.

You can call any of these Elder-Beerman stores to make an appointment.

Pink Ribbon Bagels are being sold once again at Panera Bread locations to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Ten cents from the sale of each bagel will go to ACS during October. The bagels, shaped like a pink ribbon, are made of cherry chips, dried cherries, dried cranberries, vanilla, honey and brown sugar.

The idea first came from Sue Stees, one of Panera Bread’s first franchisees and a breast cancer survivor. She developed the Pink Ribbon Bagel in 2001 as a way to support breast cancer research. Last year the promotion gave $38,013 to the American Cancer Society of Southwest Ohio.

For every baker’s dozen sold of any variety bagel, Panera will give $1 to the cause. The company also will be giving out bagels at the upcoming ACS Strides 5K Walk on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Shoe addicts, take heed.

QVC and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) will once again broadcast “FFANY Shoes on Sale,” a charitable shoe sale that benefits breast cancer research and education.

The show, which will air on QVC from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, will offer more than 90,000 pairs of shoes at half the suggested retail price. The shoes are all donated from well-known manufacturers. In the past 17 years, more than 1.5 million shoes have been sold with more than $35 million going to the cause.

In addition to the Oct. 15 broadcast, shoppers may help by purchasing the “Shoe of the Day” offered each weekday during October from 7 to 9 a.m. You can also shop online at QVC.com or by calling (800) 345-1515.

Cincinnati Premium Outlets is teaming up with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to support breast cancer awareness, outreach, research and treatment programs. During October, the mall will be sponsoring a Pink Event. Shoppers who visit the information center and make a $10 donation to the cause, will receive a special savings card filled with “25 percent off a single item” at stores including Brooks brothers Factory Store, J. Crew, Kenneth Cole, Le Creuset, Michael Kors, Polo Ralph Lauren, Samsonite and Wilsons Leather.

Cash or credit cards will be accepted for donations.
