How to make serving plates on the cheap

Hosting a party in the near future? When planning out your tablescape, you can spend lots of money buying expensive serving pieces that are all different heights and sizes.

However, for just a few dollars, you can make some great serving trays that will add different heights to your table but won’t leave your wallet empty.

You will need

Purchased:

Three decorative glasses — $1 each at Dollar Tree

Three plastic servings trays — $1 each at Dollar Tree

Black acrylic paint — $1.29 at Michael’s Arts and Crafts

Items I already had around the house:

Clear spray sealer

Foam brushes

Gorilla Glue or a hot glue gun

Directions

1. Pick out glasses that have flat bases and wide openings at the top. This will give you a larger area to hold your tray, making it more stable.

I like to pick a variety of glasses that are different shapes and sizes to mix up the heights on my table.

2. Clean glasses and trays and remove all tags.

3. Using your adhesive, glue the bottom of the glass to the bottom of the tray. Let dry.

4. Use your foam brush and paint the entire tray and glass the same color. Let dry and put on two more coats.

5. Spray with a clear seal coat and let dry. Repeat this step one more time.

For just $7.29, you have three serving trays that you can use at your next get together.

I stuck with basic black because it goes with everything, but feel free to paint these any color of your choice!
