CENTERVILLE — More than 1,500 needy children in the Miami Valley receive gifts each year from the Giving Angels program, coordinated by Hannah’s Treasure Chest.

The project provides two toys and two items of clothing for each child.

There are a number of ways to participate: you or your family or organization can sponsor a child or an entire family and buy the items on their wish list, or you can host a Giving Tree and distribute angels to your employees or members. You can also make a monetary donation.

Those who host an entire family are also asked to contribute adult necessities for the household such as bedding, gift cards, groceries, etc.

More than 800 children have already been registered for the program this year, and as many as 1,700 are expected to sign up.

Volunteers are also needed to help assemble and deliver the gifts once they are donated.

People can pick up an angel at Hannah’s Treasure Chest office, 124 Westpark Road in Centerville, or at any of the “public tree” locations.

After you buy your gifts, you’re asked to deliver them to the same place you got your angel. If you get your angel at Springboro Chamber of Commerce, for instance, you’ll take the purchased gifts back to the Springboro Chamber of Commerce and drop them off there.

Public tree locations include all branches of Citizen’s National Bank as well as:

In Centerville: Creating Waves Salon (36 W. Franklin St.), Cutie Patooties Playspace (63 W. Franklin St.), Holton Wellness Center (7626 Paragon Road), Johnnie’s Pizzeria (57 W. Franklin St.), and Salon Reveal (1002 Miamisburg-Centerville Road).

In Springboro: Springboro Chamber of Commerce, (325 S. Main St.), Coffman YMCA (88 Remick Blvd.), and Jumpstart Java (10-B Parker Drive).

In Bellbrook: 4Star Design (4455 W. Franklin St.).

In Kettering: Kroger Fresh Fair (530 E. Stroop Road).

Hannah’s Treasure Chest regularly collects children’s clothing, shoes, infant/toddler equipment and toys for children throughout the Miami Valley.

It has grown to include 56 partner agencies in four counties and served the needs of more than 11,000 children in 2010.
