Fire up grill without fizzling budget

Hot Topics

Breaking out the grill doesn’t have to break the bank this summer, as long as you employ some smart shopping tactics.

Planning on buying a new grill this season? Check out Consumer Reports’ list of top-performing grills to make sure you get one that won’t fizzle after one year of firing up.

One of the top picks is a Brinkmann stainless-steel grill, available for $198 at Walmart, Meijer and Home Depot. Take advantage of price-match guarantees when shopping the sales.

Also, it’s worth noting that Home Depot and Lowe’s will give you a new free tank of propane in exchange for your old tank with the purchase of any new grill.

Spice up your food with free seasonings and barbecue sauce. Sales abound on McCormick’s Grill Mates and Grinders as well as Kraft BBQ sauce at your local Kroger and Meijer stores. Match them up with coupons found in the May 3 Red Plum coupon insert and the June 14 Smart Source insert from your Sunday newspaper.

Don’t have the coupons? Use a clipping service on eBay. For a small fee, you can pay someone to “clip” and send you the coupons in the mail.

Kraft also is offering a new coupon booklet by mail with $55 worth of savings while supplies last.

Need some grilling pointers? Reynolds Wrap is offering a free downloadable grilling recipe and tips book now.
