Group to mark Israel's 60 years of statehood
Wednesday, May 07, 2008
On Thursday, May 8, from 5-8:30 p.m., the community is invited to Courthouse Square (weather permitting) to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel.
"This is important because it recognizes 60 years of Israel, and we look forward to sharing this event with the entire Dayton community," said Josh Lader, director of the Jewish Community Relations Council and of Israel & Overseas Programs. "We're asking the Dayton community to come out and support the Jewish Dayton community as well as the 60 years of Israel."
Extras
The event, Israel Fest, will feature Dan Nichols and Voices for Israel in concert along with Israeli food from Bernstein's Fine Catering.
Nichols has served as artist-in-residence at all 12 summer camps of the Union for Reform Judaism. Voices For Israel is a group of acapella singers who created a nonprofit organization that benefits survivors of terrorism and war in Israel.
Israel Fest is presented by the Dayton Synagogue Forum: Beth Abraham Synagogue, Beth Jacob Synagogue, Temple Beth Or and Temple Israel, the Jewish Federation of Greater Dayton and Hillel Academy.
"It may rain all day," Lader said. "In that case we we'll move Israel Fest to Temple Israel, 130 Riverside Dr. We'll make that decision tomorrow (Thursday) at noon."
