Popular social networking Web site www.facebook.com isn't asking users which presidential candidate they voted for, but simply to share with others that they voted.

Via an application on the site, Facebookers may click a button to say they voted, and the total number of those who have voted goes up. The application is sticking on users' home pages throughout the day so that the number of Facebook users who have voted is visible. The tally hit the 1 million mark around 10:30 a.m. today, Nov. 4.

Users may also select an "Obama '08" or "McCain '08" Web site button "gift" to share with Facebook friends. The button must be purchased via the Facebook "gift shop" application via credit or debit card. One-hundred credits are sold for $1.

Facebook also has a Web page devoted to today's election that includes a map through which users may find their polling place. It also has a phone number for voters to call in case of voting problems. For more, visit www.facebook.com/election08.
