WEST CHESTER TWP. — If you're planning on attending the rally Friday, Oct. 17, at the Square @ Union Centre featuring Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, here's some issues to consider:

Thousands are expected to attend. Gates open at 8:30 a.m. Pre-programming starts at 10:30 a.m. U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner will introduce Palin, who is expected to take the stage around 11:30 a.m. All attendees will be subject to search.

Tickets are required for the event. Umbrellas and chairs are not permitted. There will be seating for approximately 200 to accommodate elderly or disabled people. Signs — of your own — are not permitted. Campaign workers will be passing out signs beyond the security checkpoint.

Parking will be limited to two spots. One is the field near the Union Centre Loop and the other is the vacant lot across from U.S. Bank.

Overflow parking will be available. It will be at Rave Movie Theater off of Union Centre Boulevard in the Streets of West Chester and Voice of America Park museum off Tylersville Road. Both locations include shuttles throughout the morning.

Some streets will be closed. Centre Pointe Drive from Centre Loop Drive to Centre Loop Drive, and Towne Centre Drive, just north of Centre Loop Drive, closed Thursday, Oct. 16, and will remain closed until after the event. Additional closures may be needed Friday. Traffic will be maintained to area businesses during normal hours of operation.

Bundle up. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-40s all morning, according to the National Weather Service, and could warm up to the mid-50s by the time Palin takes the stage. No rain is forecast.
