MIDDLETOWN — The case against a Middletown woman who was scheduled to be arraigned on two counts of cruelty to animals on Thursday, Sept. 4, has been continued.
The case against Reita Huff, who fought with Monroe police as they tried to issue her a citation because her dog was severely malnourished, has been continued to Sept. 29 in Middletown Municipal Court so her attorney, John Forg, can address some questions he has about the case, court officials said.
Butler County Animal Friends Humane Society officials said Huff's 2-year-old Doberman pinscher weighed 28.5 pounds when it was found running loose Aug. 9.
Huff was identified as the dog's owner and pulled over on Aug. 13, on Ohio 4 for operating an unsafe vehicle, according to police reports. Reports state that she became combative with the officer and was shot with a Taser. She was charged with resisting arrest and assault on a police officer.
Huff also is charged with failure to confine and failure to obtain a license. She has prior animal violations, according to Butler County Dog Warden Julie Holmes.
Animal Friends officials in Trenton said the dog, named Sheba, is putting on weight and has been placed in a foster home until her health improves and she can be adopted.
