McCain picks Palin for VP; tour planned

DAYTON — Sen John McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his vice presidential nominee today, Aug. 29, according to campaign spokesman Paul Lindsay.
Palin will be on the Straight Talk Express bus with Sen. John McCain after his appearance at Wright State University's Nutter Center today, said Kimmie Lipscomb, McCain event spokeswoman.
Palin will appear with McCain at the Nutter Center at noon, where he will introduce her as his choice. His motorcade arrived at 11:55 p.m. without incident.
Today is also McCain's 72nd birthday.
A Gulfstream charter airplane from Alaska arrived at 10:15 p.m. Thursday at the Middletown Airport
McCain arrived in Dayton on Thursday and spent the night at the Dayton Marriott. Just after 11:35 p.m. his motorcade left for the trip to Nutter Center, where top Republicans were warming up the crowd. Construction workers and citizens lined the streets as the motorcade passed.
On the schedule to speak were Ohio Republican Party Deputy Director Kevin DeWine, along with Ohio Speaker of the House Jon Husted, R-Kettering and State Auditor Mary Taylor.
From Dayton McCain is expected to travel by bus to a Washington, Pa., rally on Saturday evening, enroute to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul.
