HAMILTON — While Butler County Fair visitors can expect the demolition derby and tractor pull that made the event a local favorite, new features will add even more flair to the fair.
Scheduled to begin Sunday, July 20, and last through Saturday, July 26, new features at the fair include a wildlife habitat display, a new picnic shelter and numerous international visitors, said Dan Martin, fair manager.
The fair will kick off Sunday with a corn hole tournament that begins at 7 p.m. The new "Greatest Show Under Earth" exhibit, built by the Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Office, will also open on that day. The exhibit is a trailer built to simulate an underground mole habitat and features educational activities, said Kevin Fall, district program administrator.
The office worked with Cincinnati Museum Center to build the portable exhibit, he said. The exhibit will be open to fairgoers throughout the week.
The demolition derby, one of the most popular events, will start at 7 p.m. Monday, Martin said. The tractor pull will begin Tuesday afternoon and last through the evening, while the rodeo will happen at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
A truck and tractor pull is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday with round two of the derby 7 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, the motorcross event will begin in the afternoon and last through the evening.
Organizers have built a new picnic shelter to offer visitors shelter from summer sun and rain, Martin said.
About 50 visitors from Korea plan to attend the fair on Wednesday, said Julie Dalzell, educator at the Ohio Extension Office. A similar group of Israeli visitors are scheduled to visit Saturday.
"We've had international visitors in the past. I think it's great that they get to take it all in," she said.
