Two Madison board members publicly expressed dissatisfaction the Madison Local Schools superintendent chose to go to a Cincinnati Reds baseball game rather than be at a special meeting to finalize the firing of a teacher and softball coach accused of having sex with a female student.

The board voted 4-0 Tuesday, June 10, to finalize the termination of David "Jamie" Wagner, 32, who is charged with two counts of sexual battery for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a 17-year-old Madison High School student at his Monroe home.

The teen's mother, who is not being named to protect her daughter's identity, alleged Wagner had been investigated and spoken to previously about similar incidents.

Board members said they were not aware of previous allegations and said the mother should speak to Superintendent Chris Cline, who oversees the district.

"I am very upset that this has gotten to where we are today," the woman said. "I don't know how ... people inside that school didn't know, didn't see, didn't hear."

Wagner's personnel file contains no reprimands or any documentation of previous complaints.

"This came as a surprise to everybody that I know of," said Treasurer Mark Zimov.

Board Vice President Tim Young and board member David French said Cline should have been present for the meeting.

"His inactions tonight by not being here shows our community how disinterested and disconnected he truly is," Young said. "These are not the actions of anyone who should be leading a school district." We deserve better than this."
