"A lot of people have picked up entry forms, but I guess they're waiting until the last minute to register," said Susan Neal, who is chairing the event, which is a fundraiser for the Franklin Area Historical Society.
Last year, 15 teams participated and this year she is hoping for at least 20 to sign up.
Patterned after the television reality show "The Amazing Race," teams will be given a clue about how to reach a historical location in Franklin. When they arrive, they have to perform a task before getting another clue. The first three teams to complete the race and return to the museum win cash or prizes donated by area merchants.
Neal is quick to point out that the tasks involve something pertaining to history and not eating weird or unsavory food or doing something that is dangerous or extremely strenuous.
"This year's race is bigger and better than last year's," said Neal. "Last year we had eight or nine sites. This year we have 14."
Only pre-registered teams will be allowed to race. There is no limit to the number of persons comprising a team, but there must be at least two on a team and one must be at least 18, with an adult registering as the captain.
Teams may race on foot, bike or car, but must obey all traffic laws. All team members must check in together at each station before beginning the task. When two teams are at the same station, the one to arrive first will be the first to attempt the task.
The race will take place rain or shine.
Registration forms are available at the Franklin-Springboro Public Library and by contacting Neal at (937) 746-0255.
