WEST CHESTER TWP. — Events surrounding IKEA West Chester's grand opening are scheduled to start early Wednesday, March 12.
The 344,000 square-foot home furnishings store is scheduled to open at 9 a.m., but entertainment is scheduled to start at 6 a.m., with a performance by Team Cincinnati, the winning choir form the "Clash of the Choirs" competition on the NBC television network. The choir will be joined by a Swedish children's choir for musical performances until 8:30 a.m., when the opening ceremony is scheduled to start.

IKEA North America president Pernille Lopez and West Chester Twp. Board of Trustees President George Lang are scheduled to join IKEA West Chester store manager Lonnie Rodgers in a ceremony that includes speeches, a flag-raising and a traditional Swedish log-sawing, which is said to bring good luck to the new home and its future visitors. A donation of $10,000 worth of furniture will also be made to One Way Farm in Fairfield.
Following the ceremony, the store will open its doors to the public. The first 100 adult visitors will receive free Poang armchairs, and the first 100 children will receive free Famig stuffed toys. Store officials plan to give out thousands of dollars worth of gift cards to first-day visitors.
