MONROE — Only two of the nine Monroe Local School precincts in Butler County supported the district's 6.55-mill, $28 million bond issue defeated by a 2-1 ratio.

rejected the bond levy by 2,337 votes against and 1,482 votes for, according to final unofficial returns from the boards of elections in Butler and Warren counties.
The two precincts that approved Issue 10 included the areas that encompasses the Hawthorn Glen Senior Living campus area on Hankins Road in Lemon Twp. and the Mount Pleasant Retirement Village on Britton Lane.
Lemon Twp. 1 and Monroe 9 both supported by more than 50 percent the district's efforts to build a new elementary school to house pre-kindergarten through fourth grade.
Monroe Local Schools Superintendent Elizabeth Lolli said the Mount Pleasant Retirement Village is a strong supporter of the schools.
"When we went there to speak (about the bond issue) they're just very positive and very gracious in allowing us to speak. I think they traditionally have been positive," Lolli said.
Also, many Lemon Twp. residents serve on district school committees, she said, and "they're always pretty supportive, I think," Lolli said.
In the meantime, she said the district has some more work to do to gain the support of voters in the other seven precincts who said no to the bond levy.
"I think we need to go back out in the community and
make them help us decide what's the best option (to address the district's growth)," Lolli said.
The district also plans to conduct a finance meeting with a couple of state representatives and the community to educate people on how school funding works and to provide them with the opportunity to voice their concerns with how Ohio schools are funded.
