Alerts issued for our area today, tomorrow

Young children, older adults and people with respiratory illnesses should avoid longterm exposure outside today and tomorrow, as the area is once again under smog alerts.
Officials from the Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services, which serves Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties issued the alert for today as temperatures are expected to top out at 95 degrees. Tomorrow, temperatures are predicted to exceed 95 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Smog is formed when ozone is created from a reaction between certain chemicals, heat and sunlight, making breathing difficult for some groups.
Environmental services is based out of Cincinnati, but monitoring stations have been established in Hamilton and Middletown.
Smog alert are issued by the Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services between 2 and 2:30 p.m. the day before a high-ozone day is anticipated, according to the environmental services department.
The forecast today calls for temperatures to remain in the mid to upper 90s, with the next chance for rain not until Friday. Temperatures are expected to dip into the low 90s and high 80s starting Thursday through the weekend, when a better chance of rain is predicted.
